As you guys may or may not know, I am an African American woman with natural hair. Being natural means that I no longer put chemicals like relaxers or texturizers in my hair. When I first went natural, I learned about how harmful certain products such as silicones were to my hair, and that I should do everything in my power to avoid them. And that began my journey for the perfect natural hair products. I still haven't found them yet, but it is so fun to try new things and see how my hair responds to them! And now to my review!
I first came across the Soultanicals brand while looking on a natural hair blog for tips on retaining moisture. People were offering recommendations and there was so much praise for this product that I just had to try it. So I went to the website and took the plunge!
The first thing I noticed when I received the product was the smell. It smells amazing! My mother said it smelled of cake to her, but the first thing I thought of when I sniffed this was Oatmeal Creme Pies. You guys remember those?
Needless to say I couldn't wait to try it. The packaging says that you can apply it to wet or dry hair, but I always apply products to hair when its wet, or at least damp due to a spray bottle(unless I'm being lazy). I wear my hair in an afro 90% of the time, so I just washed, deep conditioned, de-tangled and applied this product. Usually I would have applied other products, but I wanted to see how it acted alone. It has a very thick consistency, and I only needed a little bit to get the job done. Throughout the day, my hair stayed so soft and there was a scent that lingered, but it was light and pleasant. The next day was the real test though. My hair is very dry and it sucks up products like nothing, leaving me with very dry day two hair. Not this time though. When I woke up the next day, my hair seemed a tad bit drier, but it was still very soft. So I sprayed it with some water to revitalize the style, and began my day. And when I got ready for bed that night, I still didn't feel the need to add more product. It was still moisturized and tangle free. This product gave me about 3 1/2 days of moisture before I felt like I needed to put something else in my head, and even then I only needed a glob of moisture milk, far less then I was using before.
This product is great. It does everything it claims to do, and even though it is on the expensive side, it lasts so long that it doesn't even matter. I mean, you can shell out the money for this and use it for a long time, or buy another product and re buy it every couple of weeks. Have any of you guys used this product? Let me know in the comments!
